Cheating for Papers

Merita has accepted that her husband Azem married a German woman, Anna, purely to obtain residency papers. Four years on, Anna insists on visiting Kosovo to see where her husband used to live — and Azem introduces Merita as his sister and their daughter as his niece. That night, everyone sleeps except Merita, who is left crying by the bedroom door. A well-known phenomenon in Kosovo, born out of the lack of other paths into Europe.
